The Excursion Edit

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 1 June 2026

This policy explains what data The Excursion Edit (“TourCrest”, “we”, “us”) handles, why, and the rights you have. We are based in the United Kingdom, but our site is available internationally, so this policy is written to cover visitors in the UK, the EU/EEA, and elsewhere including the United States. The short version: we deliberately do not run user accounts and do not store personal information about you on our servers.

The Excursion Edit is operated from the United Kingdom by the individual trading as TourCrest. For any privacy question, or to exercise any of the rights below, contact us at connect@tourcrest.co.uk. For UK/EU data-protection law, this operator is the “data controller”.

Our privacy-first design

We are an independent comparison site, not a booking agent — and we have built the service so that we hold as little about you as possible. There are no user accounts, no sign-up, no passwords and no email addresses. The things the site remembers for you — your display preference and anything you set in the Ashore in-port tools — are kept only in your own browser (in its local storage), on your own device. We never receive or store them.

What we collect

  • Ashore in-port tools & settings (on your device only) — anything you set in the Ashore tools (your all-aboard time, terminal note, saved assistance and emergency numbers) and your display preference are stored in your browser’s local storage and never sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes them; they don’t sync between devices.
  • Anonymous usage analytics — when a search is run or a listing is clicked, we log the event itself (for example the port searched, which listing or outbound link, the platform, and a timestamp). These are anonymous counts used to understand which excursions and ports are useful. We do not record your name, email, IP address, or your browser’s user-agent, and these records are not linked to any individual.
  • An invite access code (on your device only) — if you arrived via an invitation link, the access code is kept in your browser’s local storage so the preview stays unlocked. It stays on your device.

We do not collect payment-card details (we never take payment — bookings happen on third-party sites), we do not ask for or store an email address, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Cookies and tracking

We use only strictly necessary, first-party browser storage to remember your on-device settings and any invite code. We do not use third-party advertising cookies, set no marketing trackers, and do not sell behavioural data — so no cookie-consent banner is required for advertising. If we introduce advertising or third-party analytics in future, we will update this policy and add a consent mechanism where the law requires one.

Why we’re allowed to use this data (legal bases)

  • Legitimate interests — to run, secure and improve the site using anonymous, aggregate analytics, balanced against your privacy. Because these records are not personal data, in practice there is little for data-protection law to engage with.
  • Your device, your control — anything you keep in the Ashore tools is processed entirely on your device under your own control; we are not a recipient of that data.

Who we share it with

We don’t sell data, and because we don’t hold personal data about you there is nothing personal to share. We use a small number of service providers to run the site:

  • Supabase — hosts our public listings database and receives the anonymous analytics events described above.
  • Vercel — website hosting and content delivery.

When you click an excursion, review or advisory link, you leave our site for a third party (for example a mainstream tour operator, TripAdvisor, or GOV.UK). Those sites have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for them.

International data transfers

Our providers operate global infrastructure, so the anonymous analytics we hold may be processed on servers outside your own country, including outside the UK and EEA. Where that happens, we rely on our providers’ safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses).

How long we keep it

Anything you keep in the Ashore tools lives on your device until you clear it — we hold no copy. Anonymous analytics are kept only as long as they are useful for understanding and improving the service.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, port or restrict the use of personal data, and to object to certain processing, under UK and EU GDPR and, for California residents, the CCPA/CPRA. We confirm we do not sell or “share” personal information as those laws define it. Because we don’t operate accounts or store personal data about you, in most cases there is nothing for us to retrieve or erase — and you can remove your on-device settings yourself at any time by clearing your browser’s storage for this site. If you have any question, email connect@tourcrest.co.uk. UK/EU users also have the right to complain to a data-protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office).

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. The “last updated” date above will always reflect the current version.
